Five: Songs I Couldn't Help But Like 2012

There is a reason kids to not fall behind in school. Oh really just sweep yourself into every other responsibility in life except for school. So I've been spending this past week catching up with almost eight chapters of readings that I either didn't finish reading or didn't read at all for my first cumulative exam. As an English Grad, there has never really been a cumulative exam. Oy with the poodles already.

Anywho I'm taking time out of catching with Chapter X to post a Five Post I haven't done in awhile

SONGS THAT I COULDNT HELP BUT LIKE IN 2012

1. Pitbull ft. Neyo - Tonight
I dont think this came out in 2012 but I have been hearing it a lot in the past couple of months.

2. Bruno Mars - Locked Out of Heaven

Congratulations Bruno Mars, you win. I have found a running theme of me initially hating his song and then eventually liking it, with the exception of The Lazy Song. I started really liking this song probably after seeing his performance on SNL and seeing how lively his stage ended up being. 

3. One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
My old coworker Robyn and I always said that when we first heard this song, we thought "Awwww!" But we are in no way One Directioners esp since I don't even know their names. I just go by hairstyle, esp with my students, "Which one has the messy swoopy haircut?" and then all I hear is squeals and a babel of names. Still don't know the name of the kid with the swoopy haircut.

4. Carly Ray Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
The first 50 times it played, I loved it. The last 1234987934857309845 times, not so much. But it was just that dorky cute I couldn't help but like it.

5. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble
After hearing "We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together" oh, 1394873495872348 times hearing this one was kinda refreshing with the beat. Especially with the beat, I had to really think about the fact that the person singing was in fact Taylor Swift.

Jam of the Day. Maybe it's because of my extreme sensitivity and moodiness but I heard this song the other day, and I felt the need to sympathetically awe. Then again, if any of my friends are still disappointed about Jessica Sanchez losing to him, either way, the song is utterly sweet.

322: Wizard of Oz Office and more Halloween

As I may have stated before, Montezuma decided that this year we were going to be The Wizard of Oz for Halloween. I'm still waiting to see if we're going to win for group costume since the office is still bitter about losing to Toxic Crayons last year and ruining our streak.  

I was one of the Lollipop Guild. 

I'm the one all the way on the right. Kevin was the one all the way on the left and Haley was the one in the middle. I was kinda gangstered out with the high socks. I ended up also saving a lot of money since I was just using Jon's shirt and I used my all black Reeboks and my old Field Hockey socks.

Since I was doing some of the office's makeup, Robyn asked me if I could give her some wrinkles since she was Auntie Em.

Lia as the Wicked Witch of the West

Sara as the "Cowardly" Lion. I just used her brown eyeliner to fill in her nose, give her dots for whiskers and her liquid eyeliner for her cat eye.

You have to give it to Andrew for being very into his Halloween costume as the Scarecrow. He was even asking if I could cut up some of that material and using Spirit Gum so it could stick to his face.

That is just going to be the 2/3 costumes that I will be wearing this yea - last Saturday I was a Sugar Skull. All that is left is my River Song DIY costume with Jon as the 11th Doctor. :)

I initially was trying for this outfit but for some reason a white peacoat that could pass for this sweater was not going to be in stores around the Fall :(

So I'm going to go for this look instead but instead of a revolver I'm going to stick with the Nerf Gun I purchased for the other outfit.

This is my River Song diary that I got over Etsy. Isn't it CUTE! I love the extra details the seller gave. :)

I'm pretty proud because counting it all up, for three costumes I've only spent around $45: $10 for the Nerf Gun, $15 for the River Song Diary, and about $20 for the Dickie Shorts. That easily beats last year since I had to get lace gloves, my Bieber TShirt, and other things. More pics tomorrow :)

248: Cleaning out Closets

I've been listening to my Spin Doctors Channel on Pandora at work a lot lately and this song just managed to pump me up after a lot of cleaning. :) Fun Fact: I used to confuse Rob Thomas and Joshua Jackson a lot. Why? I don't know. I see the clear difference now, but then...they kinda have some of the same features. 

• I did a lot of cleaning and reorganizing this weekend. First I reorganized my closet to put the little  bags that I had somehow been collecting, tote bags, and other random stuff into a 3-drawer Sterilte container. Finally put into a bag of clothes I just don't wear and fit in at all! That took several hours. 
• Today, I finally managed to go through my house clothes and books and see what I don't wear or plan on reading anytime soon. I have a lot of new room in my House Clothes drawer and I was able to put away a lot of books in my shelves. I also realized that I had procured quite a collection of graphic novels despite studying English. I also found a pattern of 20th century novels as well as recently published books. I've decided to try to sell close to 10 books.

Song of the Day: Peter Pan Complex - 자꾸만 눈이 마주쳐

• Yeah, yeah it's in Korean. Yeah, I don't have a clue as to what in the world he's saying. But if there's one truth about music. It's universal and if you like how it makes you groove, feel, or what not why not enjoy it. When I first heard this song back in February, I was immediately reminded on The New Pornographer's "Sing Me Spanish Techno", maybe it's the electronic beats. But this is probably the first indie Korean song that I really liked. 

No makeup

• No makeup today. Makeup fanatics may cringe at that idea, but for me sometimes being without makeup can be a liberating kind feeling. 30minutes of more free time. Just pop on my moisturizer - just because I said no makeup doesn't mean I can skip on the skin care aspect. There was one thing I wanted to do when I got back into makeup three years ago, and that was not to feel as if I had to be one with the makeup I was wearing. Not to feel that I was disgusting and ugly without these products on. I remember being a teenager during one of my many attempts to get into makeup, foundation and all and when I saw how I looked without my makeup, I cringed inside. There was this assumed pale sickly shade that I associated with my real skin tone. I wanted the bottle to be my real skin tone. But that really shouldn't be it when it comes to makeup. So I step out into society and say, hey here are my flaws. Got a problem with them?

• I made a fitness board on pinterest and I found this magazine article that was very interesting. I think this is from an Australian magazine since some of the ingredients from those recipes are only available in Australia.

FITNESS DIARY

•  Got to the Gym around 4:50pm. I decided to walk to the gym from my car in PS1 across campus. Just so I could add an additional 13minute walk to and from the gym totaling 26 minutes of strides. Did elliptical for 35 minutes. Since friends was on, it was actually pretty helpful to have it on so the 30 minutes went by quickly. I found an ab machine and a torso toner. I tried to do 100 crunches on that machine and I think I need to up the weights on that machine. I consoled Livestrong.com which I'm starting to find has the answer to everything like, "change exercises every 2-3 weeks and with regular exercise a deficit of 500 calories/day can lead to losing 1 lbs a week. (http://www.livestrong.com/article/523201-how-many-crunches-a-day-to-get-in-shape/ )I think I need to up the challenge on those work outs. Total Body Challenge tomorrow at 1pm. EE! I think I'll try to go to Rohr Park tomorrow morning to go running and then head over to the gym early for some work outs and then the class.

Nothing really of substance to blog about since I'm gearing up for my CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) tomorrow. Contemplating whether it's feasible for me to receive my TEFL Certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) while I work on my Single-Subject Teaching Credential sometime...in the future. Yesterday...honestly I napped from Noon to 6pm and only woke up because my Mom was trying to talk to me while I slept.

97: Friday 5: The Youtube Artist Edition

For my beauty blog I do a Friday Five and I decided, Hey why not for this blog? 
I always think about top fives now. Maybe it's engrained into my psyche like my blog. SOOOO todays random five is a top YouTube artist i.e. an singer/musician/artist who has posted/utilized YouTube as a means to promote their music/singing ability.

1. Dia Frampton (under handle megANDdia)- I've been a huge fan of Dia Frampton for almost ten years. I was introduced to her original band "Meg and Dia" when I was 14 when my brother would not stop playing their music. I started loving their songs as well and I've gone to almost all of the their shows they've played in San Diego within the last five years (aka when I started driving). Dia Frampton started posting videos of herself singing during the time she was in Los Angeles and competing on NBC's The Voice. She would cover artists like Adele, Christina Perry, Postal Service, etc. It felt like Dia Frampton become more personal aside from being from this band that I idolized. That's what's funny about singing talent shows. Even though the runner-ups and other contestants don't win they still get a record deal and I'm glad she's doing fine and touring with her own music AND traveling with Meg & Dia under the rouse of her 'band'.  Check out Dia's Daniel and The Broken Ones and covers Ignition Remix

2. Zee Avi (kokokaina) - The best part about Zee is that she never showed her face. Never. That is...until she was signed. That is when her viewers realized that she was the most adorable thing ever! Now she has two albums under her belt AND she's signed with Jack Johnson's Brushfire Record doesn't that sound like a match made in heaven? She hasn't posted in the past two years but I still appreciate her past work she's posted on her YouTube page whether it be original or a cover. 3. Daniela Andrade (danielasings) - this almost legal canadian gal has some buttery smooth pipes and I'm not complaining. I'm so glad she won that Ortho TriCyclen contest. She deserved it! :) Check out covers: Everything (Michael Buble), You Got Me (Colbie Callait), Modern Nature (Sandre lurch)

4. Kina Grannis (kinagrannis) - first of all can I just say how adorable Kina is? I love how she makes the effort to write out her thanks on scraps of paper and cardboard and she makes it an effort to open presents in camera so her fans can see she got them PLUS she's successfully traveling the world on tour. 4. KARMIN! (karmincovers) - despite the fact that they just did hip hop covers. Amy was able to keep up with the most prestigious rappers or shall I just say it, Busta Rhymes quick tongue. Established singers and even going to university for the arts they're super cute and I'm glad they got engaged. I've listened to their songs and I love the music they're coming out with. It's a love song that a lot of Filipinos from Pangasinan know (as thats what my parents told me) I grew up hearing that song, and it's probably the only Filipino song that I can fully sing. Although I can't get the pronunciation down, I can sing it. Maybe one day I can sing it to my kids. Let them know that even though I can't speak Filipino, there's this song that connects us back to our homeland. Even if they're raised to be sooo American, there's this song from the region of their Grandparents that they can keep with them. They'll probably hate it, but they'll learn to appreciate it in their later lives.

How can I read about invisibility within society when all I can think about is Nick Lachey's bangs?

Meg & Dia at the Epicentre feat The Spring Standards, Joey Ryan and Little Lamb

Let me tell you a story about the reality that is when I’m around a very attractive man. At the Meg & Dia show last night, one of their openers was this man named Joey Ryan. He called his music “self-deprecating”, but dang did he rock that stage. When he ran his fingers through his long musician hair to get it out of the way, I realized that he was very handsome fella. I had one of those middle school scenarios after that: gasp…is anybody looking (of course not) well I’m going to hide this girlish giggle anyway, kekeke.

At the end of the show and I had my fandom taking pictures with Meg & Dia and their guitarist Carlo (who by the way is freaking cool), I went to the merch table for the other opening acts: The Spring Standard, Little Lamb and Joey Ryan.

When I got to the Joey Ryan table, I just stood there looking at him, swirling my finger on the counter top wanting to ask for a photo but I had to force myself NOT to gawk and say “YOU’RE GORGEOUS!” I started to look down and continued to swirl my finger more furiously on the counter top before I realized that he was just staring back at me…the entire time. So…to stop my awkward gawking, I bought his CD. So that picture at the beginning of this blog is the one I took with him and yes…I walked off giggling like a maniac. I’m so awkward around a really attractive man.

& halfway into his set he told us that he got married. oh well...he is still really handsome.

Sometimes K-Pop is jush meh

Before I rant, I would like to say that I listen to K-Pop. I do like it. I listen to 8eight, 4minute, 2AM, 2NE1, F(x) and some other groups.

There's something about the Korean Music market. Maybe it's the incorporation of English words into their lyrics, recruiting Korean-American, Chinese/Americans, Thai and people of other ethnicity's. Quite possibly. If there is one thing that turns me off to this whole market, it's the fans. The whole issue with Jay Park and 2PM, issues about who has had surgery or not and even who is in a relationship with who, but back to that later.
I surf this K-Pop sites, just so I can get new music. Who is releasing a new album, new song, etc. But with all entertainment industries there are posts about who is expecting.

So the other day, this guy from the SM Entertainment's boy group, SHINee, revealed that he has a girlfriend. Now, in America, we've had some big news couples like Angelina and Brad Pitt, etc.

Anybody who knows anything about me probably has a hint that I like a little band called "Meg & Dia". I'm ecstatic that I'll be going to their show at the Epicentre next month. Earlier next month I'll be receiving their new album "It's Always Stormy in Tillamook" in the mail. So passing on the love. Comparing the demos that they posted on their bandcamp page, n retrospect, they have gone from the acoustic, to rock and in between Here, Here and Here and IAST it has an indie to folk kind of feel. Whenever bands change up their music styles, it always takes awhile for their fans to catch on and enjoy their new direction. Same with me. But in my eyes, their lyrics always take me away and make me love them more.
